Fresh Starts (and stuff)

It's almost time to go back to school. This year, we're getting a late start in Maryland because the governor declared that school shouldn't start until after Labor Day to keep summertime industries going as long as possible. It's one of the longest summer breaks I've ever had. It's been nice. Now, I'm starting to get that anxious/excited/uneasy feeling that usually precedes the start of a new year. I'm ready to go back, I just also feel sort of anxious about it. I think that's especially true this year because I'm officially going back to teaching this fall. I haven't taught an actual class for almost five years.

I'm also starting another new project that I've been anticipating for a while. In the next year or two, I plan to take a year to travel the United States in a camper. I'm working on logistics now and I still feel like it's possible the whole thing won't go off, but it's something toward which I'm working. I want to do it very badly. I believe I can do it. Still...who knows what will happen?

I love new beginnings. I am a very good beginner. Beginnings are my thing. Sometimes, I'm OK at middles. I am terrible at endings/follow-through. I lose all my focus and energy and excitement and then I quit. So, here I am at the beginning of a new year and a new project and I'm all jazzed up with that beginnings thrill. I guess I worry that I'll run out of steam like I usually do. I'm less worried about that in regards to work, but much more worried about it in regards to this travel project. In order to keep myself on task, I've registered a domain (www.melissaminskerhaswanderlust.com), a new email address, and some trip-specific social media accounts. I'll apologize in advance for inundating you with a bunch of follow requests in the next year. Oh! I also opened up my new etsy shop. Check that out, too! Please. Thanks!

In the meantime, I am going to work especially hard on keeping the beginning thunder going. I hate being a quitter. It makes me miserable and feeds my anxiety and depression as though it were candy. My new theme song is "Wanna Be Starting Something" and I'm gonna be starting something until it's all the way finished. Right? You'll help me, right? ;)
